So here it is, my 1987 Pontiac Firebird. The hood is not closed all the way, and the lights are locked open (the flip motors died quite a while ago. I just found a good deal on new ones. They're about 81 dollars a piece.

My son Ray and I verified that the fuel pump in the gas tank is indeed dead. We were able to put 12 VDC directly to it, and sure enough, it's seized up. So as you can see here, the back is up on jack stands so we can crawl under it and drop it the gas tank down and get to it. Unfortunately, we have to drop the exhaust system, and lower the back axle first, heh

Oh that greenish looking stuff on the side of the car is not rust. It's actually mold! That's how long it's been sitting outside here. I sprayed some GP cleaner on it, and it wiped right off.

Here's a pic of the rear, where me and my 20 year old son Ray will be spending the next few days laying on our backs, getting rust, clay, tar, you name it in our eyes as we unbolt everything.

So I didn't get squished. That's a good thing, hehehehehe. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the bumper sticker says:

"Keep honking. I'm reloading."

So today it was time to drop the muffler from the exhaust system. The 1987 Pontiac Firebird has a single muffler, with single input, but dual output. I unbolted the frame clamps holding the muffler and dual output out. But when I turned to look at the U-Bolts that clamp the muffler input to the exhaust pipe, I saw this:

As you can see, rusty as hell. Here's a close up.

I thought I was going to have to hack saw them off, but after using a LOT of Liquid Wrench, and some rather choice words while putting my weight behind the breaker bar, I was able to get it off:

Then Ray and I got the shielding off, dropped the sway bar down, and got the fuel lines disconnected. Then we decided to call it quits for today (and go get a shower with all the dirt, grass and rusty out of our hair and eyes., heh)
